Welcome to the site formerly known as Melonpool. As you can see, there have been a few changes. I hope you enjoy my new webcomic, "Zero Worship," which chronicles the adventures of an eight-year-old boy and the father that tries to convince him that he's a superhero -- even though he's not! You'll be happy to know that I've finally settled on an update schedule that I think I can manage. I've tried daily. I've tried, weekly. I've even tried monthly. Now, sit back, relax, and enjoy the annual adventures of "Zero Worship!" Feel free to comment on the new forum. |

I thought I'd post some thoughts on why I haven't done any new Melonpool's for awhile... it's mainly to give you the best possible ending to the strip. My inspiration is tied up in another project right now and given the amount of time I have for Melonpool, I could probably wrap it up in 4-8 more strips. But, to do the story justice, I should give it about 24 strips. I hate it when endings are rushed, but on the other hand, I'm pretty tired of beating this dead horse. Regardless of how you look at it, Melonpool is very close to the end -- whether it's 4 installments, 8 installments or 24 -- the end is in sight. When I find the time or inspiration to post something is the only thing that may take a bit of time. To tell you the truth, it feels very good to be working on something very non-Melonpool for a change. It's amazing how much 30 years of canon (whether I choose to pay attention to it or not), can weight you down. Personally, I'd rather throw all my effort into this new thing and have it be spectacular than to spend too much more time on Melonpool. But I will... eventually. Thanks for being so patient! One of the things I'm striving for in the new thing is to hit all of my updates -- no excuses. One way I'll be doing this is to have a lot of buffer in place before I post anything. Of course, I'm dying to show it off, too, so I've thought about setting up some sort of donation thing that will preview what I'm working on. Would anyone be interested in something like that? Anyway, toward the end of February, I plan to get back to Melonpool and see it through to the end. Whether that's 4, 8 or 24 strips, remains to be seen, though! |

You may have noticed that today's installment was a tad late (though not as late as it's been lately). Let's just say that I had trouble making sure that with all the Technobabble that explained the new engines, it was really difficult to keep it interesting as well as funny. I think I have a new-found respect for the writers of "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

Okay, I think I finally got a handle on drawing the strip again, following the holidays and 2 weeks of the flu that more or less took me out of commission. Assuming that the site updates on its own following the server moves, there should be a new comic up bright and early tomorrow!

Back in February of this year, Comixtalk hosted the results of a community interview with the members of the independent creators collective, Blank Label Comics. Given that this is an end-of-the-year kind of issue for ComixTalk, I thought it would be great to do another interview with the members of BLC so we could book-end the year between them. Moreover, although there has been a good deal of press on Halfpixel, the new collective formed by Scott Kurtz and former BLC members Brad Guigar, Dave Kellett and Kris Straub, there is still plenty to catch up on with the six current members of BLC: Howard Tayler, David Willis, Paul Southworth, Paul Taylor, Steve Troop and Greg Dean. Please post your questions here -- they'll collect them on December 21st with an eye to publishing the full story in January 2008. |
